COViSAL Open Letter to Judge Godbey requesting a fair resolution of attorney's fees

COViSAL   -  For Restitution March 13, 2023   Clerk of the Court United States District Court Northern District of Texas 1100 Commerce Street Dallas, Texas 75242 ATN: Chamber of the Honorable David Godbey Last week, the U.S. Receiver for the Stanford Financial Group (“SFG”) reached an agreement for the ludicrous amount of $1,602 million with five (5) banks, Toronto Dominion Bank, HSBC, Société Générale (Suisse), Trustmark National Bank and Independent Bank accused of being abettors necessary in the execution of the Stanford Ponzi Scheme which fleeced depositors out of $7 billion. This settlement would potentially award attorneys more than $400 million in fees and expenses. When on February 16, 2009, SFG was seized by U.S. authorities the lives of thousands of families in the United States, Latin America, and other countries around the world were ruined. They had invested their life savings in a promise of safety under the protective umbrella of the United States. ...

Grant Thornton Stanford International Bank Ltd. Notice to Creditors April 21, 2021

COViSAL protests the proposed settlement with Hunton & Williams LLP for $34 million, of which $8.5 million is for attorney’s fees.

COViSAL For Restitution ___________________________ September 20, 2017 Clerk of the Court United States District Court Northern District of Texas 1100 Commerce Street Dallas, Texas 75242 ATTN: Chambers of the Honorable David Godbey SEC Civil Action: 3:09-CV-0298-N Your Honor, We write to you in order to express our objection and protest the settlements by the U.S. Receiver, the Official Stanford Investors Committee, and others related to Stanford’s case. These settlements generate millions of dollars in fees for attorneys and only pennies for the families affected. In this instance we strongly protest the proposed settlement with Hunton & Williams LLP for $34 million, of which $8.5 million is for attorney’s fees. During the past 8 years Stanford’s depositors have received less than one percent of losses from announced distributions while being subject to a waiting period of almost a year per distribution.  At the same time, they have to ...

Stanford Financial Group Receivership and SIB Liquidation… Hope, punishment, or fraud?

COVi SAL For Justice & Restitution ____________________________________________________ Six years and three months have passed since Stanford’s debacle destroyed the lives of 21,739 innocent families around the world when on February 17, 2009, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) abruptly seized Stanford Financial Group in the United States. The largest group is Latin American families with 15,270 victims representing 70% of the total depositors in the Stanford International Bank, Ltd. (“SIBL”) and more than $4 billion in losses. Depositors from the United States are the second largest group. These families entrusted their savings to a company belonging to an American conglomerate regulated and supervised by the U.S. Government. The majority of Stanford’s depositors are modest people; many are elderly, ill, close to retirement, or families with special needs children.  All are unable to pay for their critical medical treatments and living exp...

Open Letter from COViSAL to Antiguan Court & Joint Liquidators

COALICION VICTIMAS DE STANFORD AMERICA LATINA (COViSAL) March 7, 2014 An Open Letter from COViSAL to the Antiguan Court and the Joint Liquidators challenging the Court’s decision authorizing claw back claims against innocent depositors   On February 17, 2014, COViSAL denounced the Joint Liquidators’ actions to claw back funds from innocent victims by sending a very damaging letter asking for the return of money withdrawn from their accounts during the six months prior to the collapse of the Stanford International Bank Limited (“SIBL”). They demanded a response within 120 days of receipt of the letter. This communication was sent in English and the majority of the victims, who are from Venezuela and other Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America, had difficulty understanding it. COViSAL’s response can be read at: http://covisal.blogspot.com/2014/02/stanfords-victims-defrauded-again-by.html On February 25, 2014, the Joint Liquidators sent another letter titled, “Sta...
